Due to a schism between organizing members this group stopped functioning and has since broken up into two other groups. There is still a need for a blacksmiths' group in the Roanoke and Southwest Virginia region. If you are forming a group in this area this web address, site and hosting for it is available. Blue Ridge Blacksmiths Association of Virginia encourages and facilitates the establishment of training programs for aspiring smiths; to disseminate information about sources of material and equipment; to expose the art of blacksmithing to the public; to serve as a center of information about blacksmithing for architects, interior designers, other interested groups and the general public. Meeting Saturday April 9
Our first oganizational meet of the Blue Ridge Blacksmiths Association was held at Peter Buchanan's Blacklion Forge in Bedford Co. Meeting Saturday May 7 Our second oganizational meet of the Blue Ridge Blacksmiths Association was held at Dave Tucciarone's Sunrise Forge on US 29 South of Lynchburg, VA. Dave demonstrated making leaves and flowers and made a nail header with a forge brazed joint. Meeting Saturday June 11 Our third meeting will be held in the NEW Blacksmith shop at Historic Red Hill, last home and resting place of Patrick Henry. Demo by Jock dempsey and Bobby Floyd. Tour of Red Hill. No fees. Time: 10:00 AM - Attendees may have Lunch afterward in Brookneal. Location: Historic Red Hill Meeting Saturday July 9th Our fourth meeting will again be held at Dave Tucciarone's Sunrise Forge on US 29 South of Lynchburg, VA. Demonstrator will be Dale Morse of Clay Hill Forge. Time: 10:00 AM - Attendees will have Lunch afterward at the Colonial Inn. Location: Dave Tucciarone's Sunrise Forge Meeting Saturday August 13th Our fifth meeting will be held at Charlie Hank's home blacksmith shop. Charlie will be demonstrating making antique oil lamp similar to the Betty lamp that has numerous forge welds.
